A trip to Reading and Berks County wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts. Located in a former safety goggle factory in downtown Reading, this art center opened its doors to the public in 2005 with the mission of making art accessible to everyone.
Vibrant Educational Opportunities
Today, it welcomes approximately 250,000 visitors and participants each year, providing opportunities to explore and learn about various art forms in vibrant, hands-on studio environments. Guests can engage in a variety of activities, including ceramics, glasswork (hot, warm, cold, and stained), fine metals, woodworking, digital arts, and more.
Watch creation in the works at glassblowing demonstrations in the state-of-the-art glassblowing studio, equipped with stadium seating so everyone can witness the dazzling artworks being made. Instructor-led classes teach the process along the way and offer a Q&A session at the demonstration’s conclusion.
Immersive Art Experiences
When planning your visit, include a one-hour guided tour through teaching studios, current exhibitions and working artist studios. Learn about Reading’s industrial past with in-depth history on the building as the first factory in the U.S.
Participate in interactive classes, time in the urban garden, and discover the value of artistic expression in everyday life. As you tour the center, you’ll view the latest exhibits, chat with artists in their studios and meet the newest artist-in-residence.
