Students can explore 18th-century life through the park’s historic village while watching live demonstrations at 15-minute interpretive stations. Dive deep into the story of the legendary and daring Christmas night crossing and take part in an adventure tailored to students’ educational priorities.
Ways to get involved
Washington Crossing Historic Park offers colonial day field trip experiences designed to provide an unforgettable learning experience. To best prepare for a field trip, familiarity with these opportunities is a must.
• Interpretive Stations: Interpretive demonstrations aim to showcase a sliver of history. Join a 15-minute, rotating tour of the park while learning about the past. Stations include military or civilian learning activities such as battlefield surgery, fire & drum, butter churning, blacksmithing, gardening, and more!
• Historic Village Exploration: The historic village is at the heart of Washington Crossing Historic Park. Featuring preserved 18th- to 20th-century architecture, students can visit landmarks such as the Durham Boat Barn, Hibbs House, McConkey’s Ferry Inn, and more.
• Gallery Exhibits: Explore the many regular and rotating exhibits featured in the park’s gallery! Containing must-see artifacts, child-friendly interactive areas, and original or reproduced relics, the gallery offers a glimpse into the story behind legends like Alexander Hamilton and, of course, George Washington.
• Tier 1 Experiences: Schools looking for a private program can choose this exclusive experience designed to provide and educate students for a single school. Enjoy 6 rotating interpretive stations, flexible scheduling, special site access, and customization!
• Tier 2 Experiences: Want to share the love of history? Washington Crossing Historic Park offers Tier 2 shared experiences that accommodate multiple schools and up to 250 students. Experience 5-10 rotating stations and the option to customize with free add-on activities and a collaborative lunch space.
• Small Group Options: The fun continues for homeschooled families and small groups. Small schools can take part in a guided school tour with two hands-on interpretive stations. Additionally, a dedicated program with 6-8 stations is offered just for homeschooled students. This option requires 50-100 total participants and takes place on select dates throughout the year.
• Rescuing the Revolution: Launched in 2025, this brand new, multi-site living history program aims to re-enact the events of the Ten Crucial Days of the American Revolution. Available Wednesday through Friday, students can join a journey from Washington Crossing Historic Park to Princeton Battlefield State Park for a truly immersive historical learning experience.
• Free Add-Ons: Want more? Enjoy free add-ons such as self-guided tours, a short introduction film about Washington’s Crossing, a walk through the Gallery, a picnic lunch, and visits to special historic buildings in the village!
