This unique planetarium stands as the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. It offers immersive student programs and field trips that are not just educational, but also inspiring. With its interactive exhibits, two domed theaters, and engaging sky shows, Adler provides a unique educational experience. Students can step into the roles of scientists, engineers, or astronauts, exploring complex topics such as astronomy, planetary science, and light pollution through both hands-on activities and dynamic presentations.
Adler’s field trips are not just educational, they are also aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. Educators are provided with content guides in English and Spanish to enhance the learning experience for students of all ages. These field trips help students understand our place in the universe through guided exploration of celestial phenomena and practical applications of science. Students also have the opportunity to engage with research programs focused on light pollution and space exploration, offering an early introduction to environmental science and advocacy initiatives.
The planetarium also offers specialized youth programs outside of regular field trips. Programs such as “Far Horizons” enable middle and high school students to collaborate on real-world research projects, including the launch of high-altitude balloons to study the upper atmosphere. Other initiatives, like the Youth Leadership Council, promote leadership and community advocacy through museum-centered activities.
The field trip experience at Adler Planetarium is designed to be enriching and engaging. On designated field trip days, students benefit from more focused educational programming and greater access to museum resources. This ensures a more comprehensive learning experience. On non-field trip days, school groups explore alongside the general public, and activities may include additional sky shows or theater presentations for an added fee.
