Sailfish Shrimping Expedition
Gain firsthand experience in Coastal Mississippi’s rich shrimping culture aboard the Sailfish
Since 1954, the Biloxi Cruise Company, LLC, has entertained visitors aboard its shrimping boats and on its adventures. The spectacular world of sea life is on display, and from the comfort of a real, operating shrimping boat, students witness the Mississippi Sound’s shrimping industry, local traditions, and the wildlife and sights that make up the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Educational Experiences
Aboard the Sailfish, the shrimping boat’s loving title, school groups will take part in a 70-minute sneak peek into the shrimping industry. Students will see where the seafood’s journey begins as the Sailfish’s crew harvests delicacies right out of the Gulf. And beyond shrimp, students can see the Biloxi Oyster Hatchery and Nursery exhibit for free, showcasing another of the region’s seafood industries.
Adventures On the Mississippi Sound
Students will be informed about the various marine wildlife, the seafood industry, and the cultural cornerstone that shrimping vessels play in Coastal life. The Sailfish crew entertains and educates in equal measure as students are navigated between Deer Island and the Biloxi shoreline. The opportunity allows students to grow in their appreciation of the outdoors and the Gulf-to-Table story.
The Biloxi Cruise Company, LLC seeks to educate about the history and heritage of shrimping in the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Field trips aboard the Sailfish result in a unique adventure out on the water and an educational experience to remember.
