About
Based on the famous book “Shepherd of the Hills” by Harold Bell Wright, the couple that inspired Old Matt and Aunt Mollie in the book known formally as John and Anna Ross owned the beautiful homestead on the property and when they passed in the mid 1920’s “Miss. Lizzy” or Eizabeth McDaniel bought the property and chose to share it with the community. Today, the plot is under new management and is planning to add new attractions to keep the magic of the land alive.
Educational Opportunities
The park offers a wide variety of educational opportunities, depending on what your class is looking to learn. You can focus on history, literature, agriculture, and art. The park includes a historic farm, showcases the history of the Ozarks, historic Uncle Ike’s post office (restored), a jeep tour of a 160-acre park led by an Ozark native guide, as well as old Matt’s cabin, which was very prominent in the book.
