The former winter home of circus magnate John Ringling, The Ringling estate is now a sprawling history museum on a campus that features the Museum of Art, the Circus Museum, the breathtaking and opulent Ca’d’Zan mansion, and brilliant gardens. “The Greatest Show on Earth” comes to life at The Ringling’s Circus Museum, where vibrant exhibits captivate learners of all ages. Human and animal feats will wow groups through fascinating showcases. Students will also learn about the logistics of circus management and test their luck at walking the wire. The museum provides educator resources for K-12 students that tie art, history and performance to classroom learning. Gillespie Museum & Rinker Environmental Learning Center (DeLand)
Discover earth science at the Gillespie Museum & Rinker Environmental Learning Center. Located on the campus of Stetson University in DeLand, the facility features one of the Southeast’s premier historic mineral collections, seasonally changing exhibits and history topics galore. Students can get hands-on with Florida’s diverse native ecology through research areas and multi-use eco-areas across the grounds. Learn about the Volusia Sandhill Ecosystem and why it’s essential to Florida’s history. Peruse more than 15,000 rock and mineral specimens, along with rotating exhibits covering numerous topics between art and science. Educational resources are available online for pre- and post-field trip activities and discussions.

Lightner Museum (St. Augustine)
Before even setting foot in this facility, groups will immediately notice the captivating Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture of the building, designed by Carrère and Hastings. Located within the former Alcatraz Hotel in St. Augustine, the Lightner Museum features decorative arts from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the history of Henry Flagler, a prominent player in the development of Florida’s East Coast during the late 1800s and into the twentieth century. Students can participate in 45-minute docent-led tours and explore Gilded Age history, Victorian costumes, stained glass by Louis Comfort Tiffany, and vibrant artistic displays. Educational programs are designed for students that highlight art, history and design that make connections to social studies and visual arts curricula.

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates (Fort Myers)
Located on Florida’s West Coast, The Edison and Ford Winter Estates allow students to explore the leisurely part of the 19th-century duo, the famous inventor Thomas Edison and iconic industrialist Henry Ford. Students can participate in guided tours of the home’s 20-acre botanical gardens and the Edison Botanic Research Laboratory, the only site in Florida to receive the title of a National Historic Chemical Landmark. The Estates also host an array of educational programs suitable for middle and high school students, including self-guided scavenger hunts and a fun camp program.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens (Miami)
A treasured city landmark located in the heart of Miami, the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens has been teaching students about history, art and nature since 1953 through exceptional programming.
