The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) offers various educational programs and field trip opportunities for students of all grades, focusing on multiple areas of study, including science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM). The museum’s exhibits are designed to engage students with hands-on experiences that align with the Next Generation Science Standards, making them an excellent complement to classroom learning.
Field trips to MOST typically include full access to interactive exhibits such as the Science Playhouse, where students can explore scientific principles through play, and the Earth Science Discovery Cave, which offers insights into geology and environmental science. In addition, the Technotown exhibit provides a unique kinetic sculpture experience that engagingly showcases engineering concepts. Special programming includes workshops on Morse code and telecommunications and themed activities like the Harry Potter Potions Class, where students experiment with various scientific concepts in a fun and relatable context.
The museum also features the only IMAX dome theater in New York State, offering immersive documentary films and planetarium shows that cover topics ranging from astronomy to environmental science. These programs enhance the educational experience by providing visual and auditory engagement that captivates students’ attention. Field trips can be tailored to specific curriculum needs and typically last between 1.5 to 3 hours, with group sizes starting from a minimum of 12 students.
MOST provides curriculum guides that align with various exhibits to further support educators, ensuring that the content taught during field trips reinforces classroom learning. Teachers can take advantage of complimentary admission and pre-visit tours to prepare for their field trips.
