Ensemble Arts Philly designs its programs with the mission to sustain the art and culture of Philadelphia. Opened in 1996, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Ensemble Arts Philly represents a range of musical genres such as Broadway, comedy, theatre, jazz and dance presentations. Alongside these notable presentations, Ensemble Arts Philly also provides community members with an array of different programs to help educate and preserve the art of music and theatre.
Available programs at Ensemble Arts Philly
Ensemble Arts Philly offers many programs suited for every age group to engage in experiential learning and become a part of the performing arts scene. The School Ensemble Program is designed for elementary and middle school students. In this program, students practice weekly with teachers from both Ensemble Arts and the Philadelphia Orchestra. With different genres to focus on, students can learn all about jazz, orchestra and hip-hop. Students also have the opportunity to perform in an Honors Orchestra and Bounce Band, which have annual performances at various venues, including the Kimmel Center. For high school students, the All City Orchestra and Jazz fellowships select young musicians throughout the community to participate. Within the program, students receive year-round mentorship and private lessons, as well as financial assistance to support educational advancement. This program is a great opportunity for students to gain exposure to a range of artists, workshops, leadership opportunities, and master classes through the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Field Trip Opportunities
Ensemble Arts Philly offers schools and educators different ways to incorporate the performing arts into the classroom. School concerts are available for grades 3-5, a great way to show students firsthand the captivating art of the orchestra. Through these interactive field trip opportunities, students can experience the Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. In the Set the Stage program, students in grades 4-6 engage in the magic of musical theatre. In this program, students participate in workshops where they get to practice acting, singing and dancing to understand the main elements that make musical theatre exciting. Jazz For Freedom is an engaging program that celebrates the genre of Jazz and its important to Black American culture. This program is designed to emphasize the role music can play as society continues to work towards social justice. Students get to understand Jazz as a culture, learning about geography, history and geography that is all incorporated into Jazz music. For current and aspiring dancers, PHILDANCO Days is an excellent program to introduce students into the world of becoming talented dancers and choreographers. Please note that each season is dedicated to a different age group. Broadway Bridges Philly provides students with access to touring Broadway performances, as this program is a part of the New York-based organization, Broadway Bridges. This opportunity shows high school students that dedication and hard work go into creating a powerful Broadway performance, emphasizing the importance of arts education and cultural equity.
