The History Center offers an enriching experience for students through its various educational programs and field trips designed to explore the rich tapestry of Oklahoma’s history. Field trips to the Center are free for public, private, and homeschool groups of ten or more when arranged at least two weeks in advance, thanks to support from the Inasmuch Foundation. This initiative allows teachers to engage students in hands-on learning experiences aligned with Oklahoma’s academic standards.
The Center encourages active participation by providing teachers with resources such as activity sheets, gallery guides, and pre-visit lesson plans to help facilitate a deeper understanding of the exhibits. Field trips typically last around two to three hours, depending on the age group, allowing sufficient time for students to explore the galleries and engage in interactive activities. Group sizes are structured to maintain a recommended ratio of five students for every adult chaperone, ensuring adequate supervision and engagement.
In addition to regular exhibits, the Oklahoma History Center provides special programming, including living history demonstrations and themed tours, which vary based on availability, especially during peak seasons in March through May. Teachers are also encouraged to incorporate lessons on local history and cultural heritage into their curricula, utilizing the resources available from the Center.
