Portsmouth’s Strawbery Banke Museum is a living history site spanning more than 350 years of rich American history. Students get to experience first-hand what homes were like by visiting restored houses from different eras, interact with time period role-players in full costume. In addition, groups can participate in traditional craft demonstrations. The museum’s archaeology program and themed tours, like “Emerging America,” provide truly unique perspectives on colonial life and the evolution of American society in New Hampshire, relating their trip directly to America 250 themes.
Strawbery Banke also offers seasonal activities, including behind-the-scenes tours, and its programs meet a variety of curriculum standards. Teachers are supported with pre-visit materials to help integrate field trips into classroom learning. Furthermore, the museum’s gardens and waterfront landscape provide additional opportunities for outdoor exploration, rounding out the educational experience.
